MUGLER was back on the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode's schedule to present the Spring-Summer 2019 collection in a new intimate and exclusive fashion show. A total of 180 people attended Casey Cadwallader’s first fashion show for Maison MUGLER at Elephant Paname, in the heart of the French capital.
A former architect with a continued passion for design and construction, Casey chose the elegant glass-roof rotunda in this dance complex as the set for his very first fashion show. In line with the venue's unique architectural style, the seats were arranged in three concentric circles made up exclusively of front row seats, reinforcing the cozy, intimate atmosphere of the show.
Guests included American rap singer Cardi B, who wore an exclusive first look from the show, performer Violet Chachki, actress Christa Theret, model Tina Kunakey, and influencers Tina Leung, Susie Lau and Leaf Greener. They each wore MUGLER by Casey Cadwallader for the event.
This fashion show gave Casey the opportunity to embody the modern and multi-faceted vision of the woman already outlined in his two previous collections for the Maison. He continues to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the brand, constantly striving for innovation in colors, textures and cuts, centered around three major themes: corsetry, tailoring and flou. At times fluid and sensual, at others structured or with exaggerated shapes, the silhouettes outline the new MUGLER wardrobe: feminine, powerful, relevant. Moreover, Casey is once again collaborating with Scottish visual artist Samara Scott, who created unique latex prints for the show from salvaged or recycled diverse materials.
For his first fashion show, the Creative Director chose to surround himself with a group of talented individuals with whom he has been collaborating since his debut at MUGLER in addition to newer talents, such as American designer Alex Harrington, renowned Belgian make-up artist Inge Grognard (ranked as one of the most influential fashion figures in the 2018 BoF 500), young American hair stylist Jawara, casting agency Midland, and sound designer Lukas Heerich who produced the soundtrack for the show.
The eclectic line-up for the fashion show included the familiar faces of some MUGLER devotees: models Vivienne Rohner and Jess Cole, who were both in the Fall-Winter Collection 2018 campaign; Debra Shaw, iconic supermodel who was a Thierry Mugler model in the 90s and who has been present in every campaign since Casey's arrival last January; and DJ Dustin Muchuvitz. These strong women were selected as much for their unique physique as for their individual characters and personalities which MUGLER wants to celebrate.
